YouTube Playlists
I’ve compiled the following channels and playlists for those looking to expand their musical exposure, or influence their YouTube algorithm. You’ll find different music from many parts of the world. Some of these channels were created by myself.
A
Afro-Latin / Afro-Caribbean Styles (Jazz at Lincoln Center) – For drummers looking to expand their skillset into Afro-Latin territory.
Alaturka Music by atimuzik- Turkish music played in the traditional Ottoman style.
Anatolian Rock Revival Project – The Turkish rock revolution happened from 1964 to 1980, until the government persecuted these musicians. Mainly protest songs, this catalog consists of vinyl-only releases from that time period. Keep an ear out for cascading melodies and funky drum breaks.

Brazilian Choro General – Inspired by American jazz, colorful compositions over folkloric Brazilian rhythms.
Brazilian Choro / Pixiguinha – The most revered artist in the choro genre

Catalonian Hip-Hop / Rap – The best female rappers from Spain, heavily influenced by American east coast hip-hop of the 90s.
Celtic Gems – A playlist I’ve compiled of my most influential Celtic discoveries.
Classical Music Study – historically significant compositions from the Classical and Romantic periods.

Ecuadorian / San Juanito – Folkloric dance music most popular in Otavalo, Ecuador.
Ethiopiques (Vol 1-30) – Ethiopian recordings from the 1960’s and 70’s. Compilation of releases for three Ethiopian record labels.

Fania Records (Afro-Cuban from NYC) – Primarily music categorized as “salsa”. Fania is an Afro-Cuban label consisting mostly of Nuyorican musicians. Created after the British Invasion overshadowed the “Latin crazy” in the 60’s.

Greek – Rembetika Songs Of The Greek Underground 1925-1947 by julimox
Greek Music – Rembetiko & Laiko by Meir Ben Chaim – music of the Greek urban subculture in the 1930s (rebetika), and the newer, popular music of the urban population after the late 1940s (laika); (Pennanen, 1997).

“Havin’ Relations” by Eric Anderson – tracking 60s and 70s blues rock after the invention of the gizmotron. Featuring artists like 10cc, Genesis, Paul McCartney, and Led Zeppelin

Jazz Fusion Brain Tinglers – This playlist was created by Sandy Lindop, a CT-based composer and teacher.

Miquel Zampedri (Podcast) – A podcast dedicated to the dissemination of the music of J.S. Bach.

Netherlands Bach Society – an institution of musicians who regularly perform the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Netherlands Psychedelic Rock – The Dutch psychedelic scene was massive, taking influence from American and British rock, as well as Indo-surf.
NEW WAVE ALTERNAT!VE.. MIX VOL 24 by ZiLENTNOiZE – post punk, New Wave, and alternative from 70s to present.

Reggae + Dub – First-wave reggae music of the 70’s, as well as the dub reproductions of the 80’s.

Songo Era (1969-Present) – Post-revolutionary Cuban music created by the group Los Van Van. Listen for innovative drum rhythms by José Luis Quintana (known as Changuito). Elements of earlier Cuban styles.

Tin Whistle Legends – A playlist I created when learning the tin whistle. A good jumping off point to imitate.
Turkish Arabesque by OxCat – A “heartwrenching arabesque playlist”. Popular music that came to the forefront in the 1960’s, and rivaled the elite’s synthesized national music.

Ukrainian Folk Book – Music I’ve compiled prior to traveling to Ukraine in the summer of 2018.

World Circuit Records – Afro-Cuban record label. Unlike Fania, more closely adhered to Afro-Cuban folk music.
